Races: 5

2015-05-02 Toughest Race Malmö 8 km 01:38:08
2015-05-12 Freeflowloppet 2015 12 km 01:06:09 Way better than 01:17:04 from 2014.
2015-08-15 Göinge Trail Run 6 km 00:45:31 First run in a true trail race. Very fun and exhausting.
2015-09-05 Hässleholmsloppet 2015 10 km 00:55:05 New personal course record! Only four seconds behind 10K personal best on a city track (Springtime 2013).
2015-10-10 Freeflow Kvällsmara 21.1km 02:05:03 New personal best on the distance. Test run on the race.

Running

Total distance: 606.04 km. With Sam in a Trille Jogger, twelve times and 119.2 km.
Average distance per week, 11.43 km.

Set a goal to reach 1000k for the year. Did not quite make it. In hindsight, it was not a resonable goal.
But 67 runs was way better than the 49 last year. Awesome!

Have joined a running club, Hässleholm Freeflow Running that has really helped.
Two regular times for traning each week means steady improvements and less excuses.

Retired my pair of Nike Air Pegasus 27, had 1345 km and 160 hours logged.
Last wore them during the Toughest race where they swam in the ocean and crawled through mud.

Hiking

Have gone for a few daily excursions to Hovdala, Vedema and Skäralid. Sam on the back.

Me and my brother took Sam on a short hike to the nearby Skåneleden shelter.
We walked about 30 minutes before taking first break. Then headed towards the shelter and Sam walked a bit.
Spent the night there and cooked over a open fire. First time Sam slept outside!
Did not go very smooth for him to fall asleep, but now he (and I) have tried it.

A very exiting hike was a day walk on Gran Canaria. Camino de la Plata – The Silver Trail.
Met a few runners who were practicing for the Transgrancanaria, hardcore.

The Whisky Advent Calendar 2015

This post was written 8 years ago.
Tue, 01 Dec 2015
Lucky me. Wife and son gave me a Whiskey Advent Calendar from Master of Malt as fathers day gift.
Being a dad is awesome!

Unfortunately I am fighting a cold so the senses are dulled quite a bit. Tasting notes will probably be more detailed as time goes.
For more details on the listed whiskey, check Master of Malt and Systembolaget links.

1: Glenfarclas 25 Year Old systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
A nice whiskey. I liked this. Not very exiting though, would not buy for myself.

2: Yoichi (Non Age) masterofmalt.com
Boom! Take that sore throat! Burns quite a bit, to much for my taste right now.

3: Compass Box Great King Street - Artist's Blend systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
No strong feelings about this one, it was ok.
Could not find exact match on Systembolaget. I wonder how the artist's blend differs from Glasgow blend.

4: Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon 12 Year Old systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
First bourbon in the calendar. Clear smell and distinctive taste of the type.
Very smooth but the 47% makes a bit stingy. I know very little about bourbon but it was really nice.

5: Dalmore 15 Year Old systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Meh. Not exciting at all, tame but smooth. Where is the flavor?

6: Kilchoman Machir Bay 2014 Release systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Smokin'! Now this is peaty. Nice! Cheap too, I recommend this if you like peaty whiskey.

7: Glen Scotia Double Cask systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Smooth, soft and with a sweet sherried finish. Very pleasant.
Unfortunately not available locally via Systembolaget.

8: The Balvenie 15 Year Old Single Barrel Sherry Cask systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
I somewhat agree with Master of Malts on this, "Classic Sherry matured whisky, really top stuff.".
But the part of top stuff I am not so sure. Did not feel very special, the Glen Scotia was more pleasant.
Then again my mood varies daily for what tastes good or better.

9: Tullamore Dew. 12 Year Old Special Reserve systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Not special, quite dull. Had a bourbon hint of smell to it. Matured in bourbon and Sherry casks.
I recommend the Tullamore Dew 12 Years Old Sherry Cask Finish instead.

10: Monkey Shoulder systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
At first smell I was thinking bourbon. At first taste I was thinking bourbon.
Apparently it is a blended scotch matured in first fill ex-bourbon casks.
Splitting reviewers in two, some love it, others dislike it. I am with the latter.

11: Arran - Batch 4 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) masterofmalt.com
52%. Power. To much power. Mostly felt like a burn on the tongue.

12: Caol Ila 12 Year Old systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Holy smoke Batman! The most peated I can remember having. Absolutely lovely!
Been a while since classics like Lagavulin or Laphroaig, but I'd place it with them, if not above.

13: The GlenDronach 12 Year Old systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
I've had this one before and really loved it that time. But today it was just ok.
Bit of smoky toffee in the end which is nice.

14: Isle Of Jura Superstition systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Had hopes for this one, I really like Isle of Jura Prophecy. But this fell way short.

15: Fettercairn Fior masterofmalt.com
So smooth and tasty, bit of peat in the finish. Overall awesome! Recommended.

16: Balvenie 12 Year Old DoubleWood systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
A soft bourbony feel, pretty tame overall. Did not feel that it really stood out in any way.

17: Mackmyra Brukswhisky systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Rough, stingy, horrible. I really do not understand why people like Mackmyra.

18: Girvan Patent Still Proof Strength systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Single grain scotch whisky, 57.1%. The higher alcohol was not that noticable and still pretty smooth.
There was one smell that instantly hit nose, foam bananas. Pretty sweet in flavor. Decent overall.

19: The Lost Distilleries Blend - Batch 7 masterofmalt.com
The most expensive whiskey in the calendar, from a limited release of 526 bottles. Powerful at 49.5%.
A hint of smoke in the smell, but sweet in taste. Nice but no wow.
It was tested alongside with #18 which I say tasted better of the two.

20: Isle of Jura Elixir 12 Year Old systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Soft and fruity, hint of cinnamon. Fitting for the season but not great overall.

21: Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Tried it directly from the freezer as suggested, but that killed all nice things about it being a whisky.
When reaching room temperature some flavor returned, hint of honey. Not wow but good enough.

22: Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Smelled a bit like grass and gave a bit of vanilla in the taste. Soft sweet aftertaste. I liked it.

23: Glenfiddich 18 Year Old systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
Very fruity smell that ended in a taste of toffee. Nice, nice indeed.

24: North British 53 Year Old 1961 (cask 10708) - Xtra Old Particular (Douglas Laing) systembolaget.se masterofmalt.com
This was a interesting one. Nose first hit with Salubrin which I could not shake, kept coming back to that reference.
Official notes say "like spent sparklers" which is not that far off.
Unlike the smell, the taste was really something. Oaky and orange peels. Leaving a blanket of dates in the mouth afterwards.
Very very very nice, need to get myself something like this when hitting 40.

In my mind, this is what I want to be doing.

Resizing a Bootcamp partition

This post was written 9 years ago.
Tue, 06 Jan 2015
How I managed to break Windows 8 and repair it with Windows 7.
My Macbook Pro is dual booting OSX and Windows 8. The 120gb SSD drive was split into two 60GB partitions.
Since Windows 8 is what I use daily, this is were space was running low.

After cleaning up the OSX partition as much as I could, it was shrunk using the Disk Utility.
Next step is where I went wrong. With GParted Live CD the Windows 8 partition was moved and expanded to use the free space.

This broke Windows 8 booting. No worries, knew this could happen, already had a Windows 8 Recovery USB to help with this.
Unfortunately for some reason the computer refused to boot from that.
The install DVD didn't work either, freezing on the splash screen. Apparently a known problem that hid when first installing.

After two days of troubleshooting and trying various fixes, a Windows 7 install DVD was the solution.
Booting from that worked fine. Selecting language at initial install screen gave me access to the "Repair your computer".
That was all it took, repair fixed the boot and Windows 8 is running again in its new bigger suit.

So if you are having trouble with Windows 8, Bootcamp and GParted, Windows 7 may be the fix.

Year 2014 in numbers

Races: 2

2014-09-06 Hässleholmsloppet 2014, 10 km. Time: 01:03:17 (06:20 min/km)
2014-05-13 Freeflowloppet, 12 km. Time: 01:17:04 (06:25 min/km)

Running

Total distance: 347.38 km. With Sam in a Trille Jogger, nine times and 69.5 km.
Average distance per week, 6.63 km. Average per run, 7.08km.

Set a goal of running 60 times during the year, got 49. Almost once a week is good.
Need to slowly increase averages and push myself to get those two shorter runs per week for a while.
Then alternate with a single long run to get some distance training too.

Hiking

One two day hike, you can read about it here Skåneleden, Klinten-Verum-Harsjo

A trial trip to Skäralid, walking the Kopparhattsrundan (pdf) with Sam and friends.
Borrowed a carry-backpack to see if he would enjoy this mode of transportation.
Laughing and making sounds constantly then falling asleep, great success.

So bought a Osprey Poco Plus which we have used four times for a total of 30km already.
Mostly doing the Casper's slinga at Hovdala.
Sam loves it, making joyful sounds and sleeping without issue.

Julkalender 2014

This post was written 9 years ago.
Mon, 01 Dec 2014
Lucka 1: Primator Premium Dark (#1615)
Bastant öl, tydlig smak av rostat bröd/kaffe. Betyg 4/5.

Lucka 2: Augsburger Herren Pils (#1637)
Enkel pilsner, lite väl mycket citrustoner för min smak. Betyg 2/5

Lucka 3: Slots Guld
Gammal goding, en klassiker. Fungerar i alla lägen. Betyg 3/5

Lucka 4: O'Hara's Irish Red Ale (#1486)
Mycket trevlig men inte fullträff, lite tam i smaken. Betyg 3.5/5.

Lucka 5: Miller Genuine Draft (#1579)
Behaglig beska, smakar mer än en "vanlig" ljus lager. Betyg 3/5.

Lucka 6: Guinness Extra Stout (#1561)
Mmmm, min favorit-stout. Rostat bröd/kaffe i massor. Betyg 5/5.

Lucka 7: Mariestads Old Ox (#1379)
Mycket beska och en finish av sprit. Inget vidare. Mindes den bättre. Betyg: 2/5.

Lucka 8: Mariestads Export (#1203) Förvånanstvärt lik Old Ox men utan det spritiga avslutet. Betyg: 2.5/5.

Lucka 9: Samuel Adams Boston Ale (#1649) Fyllig, fruktig och tydlig beska. Smaklökarna får sig en stor dos kärlek. Betyg: 4/5.
Klocka: Beska 7 - Fyllighet 6 - Sötma 2

Lucka 10: Innis & Gunn Toasted Oak IPA (#88530) En av de trevligaste ölen jag druckit. Klart godare än I&G oak aged. Betyg: 5/5.
Klocka: Beska 4 - Fyllighet 5 - Sötma 2

Lucka 11: St Peter's Winter Ale (#11331) Mycket smak och en hint av choklad. Betyg: 4/5.
Klocka: Beska 6 - Fyllighet 6 - Sötma 3

Lucka 12: Slots Guld
Favorit i repris. Se Lucka 3 för detaljer.

Lucka 13: Lucia Choklad Starkvinsglögg (#96463)
Wildcard på dagen. Smakar inte alls gott. Chokladen springer förbi innan munnen överfalls av vinet.

Lucka 14: Starobrno Premium (#11341)
Något söt i smaken, behaglig öl helt klart. Betyg 3.2/5.
Klocka: Beska 6 - Fyllighet 7 - Sötma 2

Lucka 15: Mariestads Export
Repris från lucka 8, denna gång ur 50cl burk istället för 33cl.
Smakade konstigt nog bättre än senast. Betyg 3/5.
Klocka: Beska 6 - Fyllighet 6 - Sötma 1

Lucka 16: Hoegaarden Wit-Blanche (#1563)
Fruktig med citrus. Läskande gott. Betyg 4/5.
Klocka: Beska 1 - Fyllighet 4 - Sötma 1

Lucka 17: Mariestads Export
Repris från lucka 8 och 15.

Lucka 18: Staropramen Granat (#1609)
Deluxegott, lite julig med knäck i eftersmaken. Betyg 4/5.
Klocka: Beska 6 - Fyllighet 7 - Sötma 2

Lucka 19: Carl's Special
Kärlek för gomen. Ordentligt med smak. Betyg 4/5.

Lucka 20: Zatec Gluten Free Beer (#1550)
Maltig smak, varken bu eller bä. Betyg 2.5/5.
Klocka: Beska 5 - Fyllighet 5 - Sötma 2

Lucka 21: Spitfire Ale Shepherd Neame (#1635)
Besk, smakar tydlig brittisk pub pint. Betyg 4/5.
Klocka: Beska 7 - Fyllighet 6 - Sötma 2

Lucka 22: Hilliards Amber Ale (#1550)
Fruktig och besk, en ale som inte alls faller mig i smaken. Betyg 1/5.
Klocka: Beska 8 - Fyllighet 7 - Sötma 1

Lucka 23: Melleruds Utmärkta Pilsner (#1253)
Maltig pilsner. Inte jättegod. Betyg 2/5.
Klocka: Beska 6 - Fyllighet 6 - Sötma 1

Lucka 24: Three Hearts Julöl (#11380)
Barken bu eller bä, en julöl standard 1a. Betyg 2.75/5.
Klocka: Beska 4 - Fyllighet 5 - Sötma 3

Skaneleden, Klinten-Verum-Harsjo

This post was written 10 years ago.
Sat, 05 Jul 2014
Me and my brother did a two day hike on Skaneleden.
Section 8, Klinten-Verum (24km). Section 9, Verum-Harsjo (20km).

We used a Samsung Galaxy Y in Flight-mode and the My Tracks app from Google to GPS track our path.
12 hours with active logging and 17 hours of standby took 50% battery. Very impressive.

First section, mostly forest paths and dirt roads but rough terrain too.
We started at about 10:00 and arrived at camp around 16:00.
Distance: 22.46km.
Total time: 5h46m20s, Travel time: 4h54m27s.
Average pace: 4.58km/h or 13:07min/km.

Second section, mostly dirt roads and forest paths. Only few hundred meters rough terrain.
Began walking at 09:00 exactly and arrived at the second camp just before 15:00.
Backtracked a bit to the meeting point to be picked up.
Distance: 20.19km.
Total time: 5h56m33s, Travel time: 5h29m04s.
Average pace: 3.68km/h or 16:18min/km.

Did not feel this much slower, on the contrary, it actually felt like we were moving faster because more was on dirt roads.
Obviously we took a beating carrying more weight first day, something we did not fully recover from according to these numbers.
